The Cantharellus noumeae coral is listed as endangered by the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red List. This coral is rare and gains its name from its similarity to Chantelle mushrooms. Being endemic to New Caledonia means that any added threats, such as pollution or ocean acidification or habitat degradation, only put this species even more at risk for extinction.
